SCUBA Diving In East Africa

An exciting feature of our Explorer Program as well as our Academic Program is the inclusion of SCUBA diving for those interested. We have a complete inventory of excellent dive equipment and some of the best, most experienced SCUBA instructors in the business. Combine that with the amazing coastline of Kenya, rich coral reefs and warm water and you have a great opportunity to top off your safari experience with an underwater adventure.

The coral reefs of the Indian Ocean are a spectacular training ground for beginning SCUBA divers and a magnificent diving location even for experienced divers looking to perfect their skills. The water is warm at 28 °C or higher and the coral reefs are extensive and diverse. Join us as we look among the corals for a hunting octopus, or for the slow motion of the magnificent lionfish. Observe damselfish, butterfly fish, angelfish, and clownfish in their own underwater world. Soft coral, hard coral, and coralline algae, all form part of the living reef, and act as a backdrop for the activities of the great schools of fish and cryptic invertebrates. If we are lucky, on any given day, we might also see dolphins, turtles and even the massive, but harmless, whale shark drifting silently by. It's an amazing environment, and you can see it yourself by participating in our SCUBA diving program.

If you decide to learn to SCUBA dive in one of our programs, you will be certified by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and will obtain your Open Water Diver's Certification. Certified divers can work towards higher levels of proficiency, including certification as an Advanced Open Water Diver or simply increase their experience level. The diving program provides all the equipment, except personal gear (snorkel, mask and fins). All instruction and supervision are included.

All divers and participants wanting diving certification must fill out a sport diving medical form which we will provide. The additional costs associated with participation in the diving program are the purchase of personal gear (mask, snorkel and fins), the cost for PADI certification (approximately $35. CDN), and a PADI open water diver manual with dive table for new divers. A dive store can advise you on the various packages available for personal dive gear and the cost for a manual if needed .

Contact us for more details or if you do not have a local dive store. It's all great fun, and we hope you will join us on our diving adventures. If you have any questions about the diving portion of the program please email: Brian Hartwick or Cam Jones.
