Infrastructure and Health & Safety

The Study in Africa Program has many years of experience in East Africa. We rely on this experience and our in-country contacts to plan a safe and interesting itinerary for our participants. We plan all of our trips with great care and with safety and security foremost in mind. To provide a safe and rewarding safari to our participants, we own, operate and maintain all of the equipment for the field school including vehicles.

For transportation while on safari, we have diesel powered Bedford passenger trucks. Driven by our own experienced drivers and maintained by our long-term mechanics, these open-air vehicles providing excellent wildlife viewing, as well as safe and reliable transportation. Our cargo trucks carry our camp gear, gas powered generators, supplies, and everything else to make your safari experience comfortable. Light vehicles such as our land rover provide for quick travel for supplies as well as administrative activities for the program.

Passenger Trucks

We have quality tents, latrines and showers for your camping comfort. We also have large canvas meeting tents for eating, orientation at new sites and these are also used for lectures for the academic field school.

Safari Classroom

Food, including fresh fruit and vegetables, is prepared daily by our experienced cooks, many of whom have worked for the program for many years. We can also cater to the needs of vegetarians, vegans or special dietary needs as long as we are given sufficient notice. Drinking water while on safari is provided by our reverse osmosis system including filters and UV light treatment. We even carry a well stocked medical kit on our travels.

While SCUBA diving on the coast, our participants can use our OCEANIC dive gear including regulators, BCD’s, air tanks, and weight belts. We even maintain our own air compressor to fill the tanks.
