Fees

Fees for the Explorer Programs (scroll down for Academic Program Fees):

Fees for the Explorer Program (Explorer Option 1):

Explorers must make their own arrangements for air travel to Nairobi. Email Brian or Cam before making your final flight arrangements so we can ensure that arrival times in Nairobi are appropriate for us to pick you up at the airport.

We have a basic daily rate for adults on the Explorer trip of $140 US per adult per day (special lower rates for children are available.)

To work out your basic cost, just calculate the number of days including arrival and departure day and multiply by $140 US.

Included in the basic daily rate:

- airport pick up in Nairobi
- all food and accommodation including water , tea , coffee
- all land transportation in East Africa
- game viewing
- camping fees
- security
- staff salaries
- SCUBA equipment and instruction

Not included in the basic daily rate:

- travel insurance
- Kenyan visa (currently $25 US payable at the airport or can be purchased ahead of time)
- immunizations and anti-malarial drugs
- alcohol, sodas
- National Park fees (currently $60 US per adult per day while in National parks)
- event or site entry fees (usually less than $15 US per adult)
- personal dive gear ie. mask, snorkel and fins
- boat charges of $25 US per dive
- any necessary dive manuals
- dive certification cards (approximately $35 CDN)

Payment Schedule:

The basic fees ($140 US per day times number of days) must be paid by certified cheque, bank draft or money order and should be made payable to Canadian Field Studies Ltd. as follows:

* $500. US deposit due when booking
* Remainder by December 15 unless special arrangements are made.

Fees for “Special Family Trip” (Explorer Option 2)

Information on fees for the family trip including family daily rates as well as complete packages is available from Brian Hartwick at bandh01@telus.net This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for you and your family to experience the magic of Africa together in a safe, relaxed, and friendly environment.

 

Fees for the Academic Field School:

Academic Regular program (January 14 to March 24 including the Coast):

Non-Tuition Program fee : $11,500. US

Payable as follows:

* $1000US deposit due with application.
* Remaining fees of $10,500 US due by November 15 unless special arrangements are made in relation to expected funding (eg. scholarships or bursaries).

All fees must be paid by certified cheque, bank draft or money order and should be made payable to Canadian Field Studies Ltd.

Included in the non-tuition program fees:

- all ground transportation in East Africa
- staff salaries
- all camping fees
- all security fees
- all National Park fees
- all academic field trip costs
- faculty, teaching and administrative costs
- all wildlife viewing game drives and site visits
- SCUBA equipment and instruction (except mask , snorkel and fins)

Not included in our fees:

- return airfare*
- Makerere application fee, tuition and university fees (see section on Makerere University registration fees and transcripts)
- Travel insurance
- tourist visas for Uganda and Kenya
- immunizations and anti-malarial drugs
- personal dive snorkel gear [ mask, snorkel and fins]
- any necessary manuals for SCUBA if diving
- dive boat charges of $25. US per dive if diving
- dive certification cards (approximately $35. per certification) if diving

*Note: In an effort to keep the cost of our program reasonable, we do not include airfare in the program fees. The cost of airfare differs significantly from different parts of Canada and we do not want to inflate one participant's fees to accommodate the increased cost of flights from other locations, including those in the US and overseas. Please contact a local travel agent to discuss the cost of a return flight to Nairobi, Kenya from your location.

Inland Only Program [January 14 to March 5]

Non-Tuition Program fee : $9,100. US

Independent Coast Programs

Coast Marine Biology program fee (March 6 to March 24) : $3,990 US

Included in the fee:

- airport pick up in Mombasa (or Nairobi under special arrangements)
- marine biology course
- all meals and accommodation
- all security fees
- all field trip costs
- all site visits
- faculty, teaching and administrative costs
- all gratuities for program staff
- all SCUBA equipment and instruction if wanted

Not included in the fee:

- return airfare
- Makerere University tuition, application fee and university fees (see section on Makerere University registration fees and transcripts)
- travel insurance
- Kenya visa
- immunizations and anti-malarial drugs
- personal gear ie. mask, snorkel and fins
- necessary dive manuals[if diving]
- boat charges of $25.US per dive[if diving]
- dive certification cards (approx. $35. per certification) if diving

Diving only Coast program fee (March 6 to March 18) : $2,860 US

Included in the fee:

- airport pick up in Mombasa (or Nairobi under special arrangements)
- all meals and accommodation
- all security fees
- SCUBA dive equipment and instruction
- boat charges (2 dives per day)
- local land transportation (arranged shopping trips
- all gratuities for program staff

Not included in the fee:

- return airfare
- Kenya visa
- travel insurance
- immunizations and anti-malarial drugs
- personal gear [ mask, snorkel fins]
- dive certification cards
- any necessary dive manuals

Independent Coast Program or Diving only program fees are payable as follows:
