Application Process for the Academic Program

The Study in Africa Program application process is very easy to complete. We would like to ask prospective students to email us with any questions they may have about the program and the application process and to give us an indication of their intention to apply.

Applications will be accepted starting in April of the year preceeding the safari. So, for example, if the student wishes to participate in the January 2010 safari, applications can be sent to us starting in April 2009. Our staff is in East Africa from January to April every year and any applications sent before April will not be processed until they return.

Applicants are encouraged to complete the application process by September 1st of the year preceeding the safari they wish to participate in. Since the Study in Africa Program does have limited space, priority is given for early applicants, however, we will continue to accept applications until December 1st as long as space is available.

Please note that you do not need to send in all parts of the application at the same time. Official transcripts and reference letters can follow the main application form, however, note that consideration of acceptance will not occur until all parts of the application are received.

The application process for the academic program in three easy steps:

1) Everyone must fill out a Study in Africa program application form.

2) This application must be accompanied by:

  • two letters of reference attesting to the applicant's character and ability to work within a group, unofficial transcripts (with official copies to follow)

  • a deposit cheque for $1000, stapled to the application. This deposit is fully refundable if the applicant is not accepted to the academic field school.

Note: Transcripts and reference letters may follow the application. Priority is given to early applicants.

You will need to include your Grade 12 transcript only if you are under 19 years of age.

3) To maintain an active status as a student at your home institution and to ensure transfer of credits, you must obtain a Letter of Permission from your department at your home institution to register for the courses as Study in Africa Program student. Please check with your school regarding policies for taking a semester at a different institution.

For your convenience, please send completed applications, by Priority Post or a Courier Service, to:
